Oscar Hammerstein: Broadway to Bucks County, Presented by Will Hammerstein

Oscar Hammerstein II, in collaboration with Richard Rodgers, wrote some of the most popular musicals of all time, including Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. In the fascinating program Oscar Hammerstein: Broadway to Bucks County, Oscar’s grandson Will Hammerstein tells the whole story—from his birth into a theater family in 1895, through the ups and downs and major influences of his career, up until his death in 1960 at his beloved home Highland Farm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Highland Farm is where the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein partnership was formed, where Oscar did most of his lyric writing, and where he mentored a high school student named Stephen Sondheim. Will also explores his efforts to turn historic Highland Farm into a museum, dedicated to furthering his grandfather’s great legacy.

Please note: The program can be complemented by live musicians performing the Hammerstein songbook.
