How Did The French Convince Us Their Food is Best? Presented by Wendy Rosen

  • Burlington County Library 5 Pioneer Boulevard Westampton Township, New Jersey, 08060 United States (map)

How did the French convince the world that their food is simply… better? Was it the butter? The wine? The cheese? Terroir? Or were the French also some of history’s most ingenious culinary marketers?

Wendy Rosen will be giving a free talk at the Burlington County library exploring how France built—and exported—its extraordinary reputation for food. We’ll travel from medieval claims of culinary superiority to AOC and terroir, and explore how empire and colonialism, with a little help from Thomas Jefferson, helped spread French tastes, techniques, ingredients, and ideas about what counted as “good” cuisine around the globe.

Explore fascinating history, culinary culture, empire, a little marketing genius—and plenty of French attitude. Francophiles, food lovers, and the simply curious are très bienvenus !
